Pine Meadow Elementary Playground Grand Opening Ceremony

Pine Meadow Elementary celebrated the opening of the newly constructed playground on Tuesday, September 7, at 2:00 PM at the Pine Meadow Playground. Students, family and community members were invited to attend the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

“I have been amazed by the patience and amount of support by the community throughout this process,” said Dr. Joe Hill, superintendent of the Sartell-St. Stephen School District. “Our district staff has been committed to this project to ensure that our students have safe access to the new playground equipment in a timely fashion as guaranteed.”

Ayleigh Hammond, a 3rd grade student, cut the ribbon to officially open the new PME playground. After the fire, she sold cookies to help raise money for a new playground. She raised $140, that was given to our PTO.

The new equipment was installed over the past few weeks. Three companies were involved in the removal and installation of all equipment. The border was upgraded to cement allowing for better access to benches, picnic tables and swing areas. The installation crew was fortunate to have a dry week when the equipment was installed. A few smaller items, including sprinklers and a final cement area need to be completed. The equipment will be available and safe to play on for the first day of school for the students of Pine Meadow Elementary.

“This has been a great sign of community, resilience, team and service that are a part of our city and school district fabric,” said Dr. Hill.

The playground was replaced through insurance after it was destroyed by a fire on July 5th, 2010.
