Sartell-St. Stephen Students Perform Above Average on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District announced the local results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA). These assessments measure state-standard aligned reading, mathematics and science proficiency of 3rd through 8th grade and high school students across the state.

Sartell-St. Stephen students outperformed the state averages at all grade levels and in all subjects (math, reading and science). In Minnesota, the MCA Math and Reading assessments are required for all students in grades 3 through 8 and in high school. The Science assessment is required in grades 5 and 8 and high school.

"We are proud that our students continue to perform above state averages.  We celebrate that success, but also know these results provide us with valuable information to inform our instructional practices so that we are meeting the needs of all learners,” shared Jeff Schwiebert, Superintendent for the Sartell-St. Stephen School District.

"We applaud our students and staff on this accomplishment.  We know that the greatest impact on student achievement comes directly from committed teachers and the skilled instruction they carry out in their classrooms every day.  The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments are rigorous measures of student achievement against required state standards and we will continue to strive to provide our students instruction that is aligned and incorporates best practice. Our district is entrusted to prepare our students for success today and into the future and we do not take that charge lightly,” stated Kay Nelson, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services.

"Minnnesota Comprehensive Assessment data, in combination with other local assessment information, assists teachers in designing curriculum that targets specific skills within reading, math and science and engages students in critical thinking and real world application of those skills. The data provides useful information as we work to meet the many diverse needs within a classroom and prepare our students to be career and college-ready," stated Schwiebert.
