Success of Summer Open Library Program

Children of all ages enjoyed books in many of Sartell’s parks this summer as a part of the Open Library Program held at Pine Meadow Elementary and the Sartell Middle School. Over 450 children registered for the program – which allows them to read and check out books from both library media centers. The theme was “Read around the Town”.

Each week a secret location was given out (located by by typing the coordinates into their GPS or into a website on the Internet) which brought readers to a Sartell area park, where they enjoyed their books outdoors. Each location also featured a clue that lead to the summer’s final event: a bowling and pizza party at Great River Bowl! Students were encouraged to discuss their books and post their favorite pictures at a Summer Reading site on the Sartell School District website.

Participants earned prizes each time they visited the library, and also had a chance to put their names in a drawing for additional prizes. This program was supported by Sartell-St. Stephen Community Education, the City of Sartell, Great River Bowl, Holiday Station Stores, Marnatellis's, Barnes & Noble, Marco, Scheels, A&W, Crafts Direct, and Scholastic.
