Summer Library Opens June 15th

The summer open library program at Pine Meadow Elementary School in
Sartell will begin June 15 and run through Aug. 12, with all books due
Aug. 19. Although this is a free program, registration through
Sartell-St. Stephen Community Education is required and can be done any
day at the Pine Meadow library. The library will be open Tuesday
evenings from 5-7 p.m.; Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Thursdays
from 9-11 a.m. The Sartell Middle School media center is also open from
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursdays.

SMS Student Heads to National GeoBee Contest

Folks in Sartell are making a fuss about the national academic success of a sixth-grader. Tuesday is Gopi Ramanathan Day in Sartell. The electronic signs near the entrances to the city have already been running his name for the past week, and Friday students filled the gym for a pep rally featuring Mayor Tim O'Driscoll sending off the middle school student.

SSEF Shares Success

It’s been a banner year for the Sartell-St. Stephen Education Foundation. SSEF announced more than $20,000 in education grants for 2010, a high for the group and a 30 percent increase over last year. It will also double its scholarship offerings this year, distributing $6,400 in scholarships to graduating seniors this June.

Superintendent Contract Approved

On behalf of the school board, I am pleased to announce the approval of Dr. Joe Hill's contract at last night's board meeting.  Joe will start his superintendency on July 1, 2010. We're excited to welcome Joe and his family to our community!

Sartell wins Fox 9 Outstate School Spirit Award

Fox 9 News announced that Sartell has won the Fox 9 School Spirit Award.  The contest started about six weeks ago and individuals need to go online and vote to beat out other schools in this bracket-style spirit award.  You can watch the students tonight around 5:50 PM on Fox 9 news.  

Also, on MONDAY, April 19th, barring any breaking news or extreme weather..you'll see the whole event.

Sabre Swimmer Named Minnesota Class A Swimmer of the Year

Marisa Wood was named Minnesota Class A Swimmer of the Year.

Statewide Testing for Students This Week

April 13th is the start of many students taking state testing, including the MCAs and GRAD Test. On Tuesday and Wednesday, grades 3,4,5,8, and 10 all take their reading assessments. Students in 11th grade have a math assessment. 9th grade students have the GRAD writing test on Tuesday and 8th graders take their math test on Thursday.  Click here for more information.

SMS Student Wins State Geography Bee

Congratulations to 6th Grader Gopi Ramanathan who WON the State Geo Bee today. Gopi competed against 100 students from throughout Minnesota.  Gopi will now advance to the National Geo Bee in Washington, D.C. the end of May.

ISD 748 Spring Break

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District has Spring Break from Monday, March 29th to Friday, April 2.  The District Office building will be open Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM  - 4:00 PM. Limited services and hours will be provided.  Please call the office at (320)656-3701 to confirm specific department hours.

School Board Announces Selection

The Sartell-St. Stephen School Board is happy to announce our selection of Dr. Joseph Hill as the district's next superintendent, pending completion of negotiations.

A site visit to Duluth Public  Schools on Monday affirmed Dr. Hill's strong leadership abilities and his exceptional visionary approach to education.  He will be an excellent match with our school district's culture and mission.
