District Seeks Community to be Involved in Long-Range Facilities Process

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District is currently encouraging community members to apply to be part of the Community Schools Planning Committee.  This will be an exciting process of developing a facilities master plan to ensure district school buildings and facilities are able to meet the 21st century learning needs of students.

In January, the School Board approved to move forward with Cunningham Group in supporting the facilities planning process.  As the district moves forward on this long-range facilities planning process, it is important to include diverse perspectives to inform a comprehensive plan.  To that end, the district are convening a committee of 50-100 members composed of district staff, students, families, community members and key partners. Through the guidance of a steering committee, the Community Schools Planning Committee members will be responsible for recommending district-wide priorities and baseline needs for district schools and facilities.  These recommendations will then be presented to the School Board in the fall of 2015.

“We want to truly engage our community.  This is an important process which will allow us to create a plan that will support student learning at all levels - during, and outside of, the traditional classroom and school day.  Our school buildings are hubs in our community that offers a variety of learning opportunities for all of our citizens,” shared Superintendent Jeff Schwiebert.

The time commitment would mean participating in a series of nine workshops from March to October 2015. TheCSP Committee workshops are scheduled as follows:  March 11, 4 - 8 pm; March 18, 4 - 8 pm; April 8, 4 - 8 pm; April 15, 4 - 8 pm; May 6, 4 - 8 pm; May 13, 4 - 8 pm; September 16, 4 - 8 pm; September 23, 4 - 8 pm; and October 28, 4 - 8 pm.
