UPDATE 2-6-14

The Sartell-St. Stephen School Board has agreed to enter into negotiations with Jeff Schwiebert to serve as the new Superintendent of Schools. Schwiebert was selected from within a strong pool of nearly 40 applicants for the position. The Board enlisted the services of search consulting firm School Exec Connect who presented seven semi-finalists to the Board a week ago. The Board interviewed and narrowed that group to three finalists. Following extensive screening involving multiple student, staff and community stakeholders conducted this week, selected was Schwiebert for the position.

Based on feedback from the stakeholders, and in accordance with the profiles built earlier this school year by those groups, the Board determined that Schwiebert best exhibited the characteristics sought in the new leader. “We had several great candidates," stated School Board Chair Michelle Meyer. "We are excited to move forward with negotiations with Schwiebert. He brings a variety of experiences and exceptional qualities of leadership to our district which will help us continue to move forward."

Schwiebert has most recently served as Superintendent of North Scott Community School District in Eldridge, Iowa. Assuming the successful completion of contract negotiations, Schwiebertis expected to start here in July. Interim Superintendent Mike Spanier will continue to serve in this role through the leadership transition.

UPDATE 1-30-14:

Three candidates will be moving forward in the Sartell-St. Stephen Superintendent search process.  Debra Lechner, Director of Teaching and Learning in Brainerd, MN; Paul Neubauer, Director of Curriculum and Instruction in St. Francis, MN; and Jeff Schweibert, Superintendent North Scott Community School District in Eldridge, Iowa, have been identified as finalists.  After an initial screening by School Exec Connect, and first round interviews by the Sartell-St. Stephen School Board, these candidates will be participating in full-day interviews which will include several meetings with a variety of district stakeholders, including students, a public forum and a final School Board interview.

The candidates have been scheduled as follows:

Monday, February 3rd:  Paul Neubauer, Director of Curriculum and Instruction; St. Francis, MN

Wednesday, February 5th:  Debra Lechner, Director of Teaching and Learning; Brainerd, MN

Thursday, February 6th:  Jeff Schwiebert, Superintendent North Scott Community School District; Eldridge, Iowa

The School Board invites all staff, students and community members to come to the Community Forum scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Sartell High School Media Center on each interview day.  The public will have the opportunity to listen and ask questions of each candidate.

Superintendent Search Profile Online Survey Results

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District 748 Board of Education has contracted with School Exec Connect, a superintendent search firm, to assist with the search for a new superintendent. Board members want you to be informed of the process that the district will be following as the search is conducted for a new superintendent.  Additionally, community and district stakeholder input is essential to assist this process in making the best selection possible.

To begin the process, the School Exec Connect consultants, Dr. Kenneth (Ken) Dragseth and Dr. Greg Vandal met with board members, school staff, parents, students and community members individually and in focus groups to determine the challenges, strengths, goals of the district and what characteristics or skills are needed in a superintendent.  Additionally, staff and community members had the opportunity to give confidential written feedback to the consultants via the district website linked to a questionnaire in Survey Monkey. Using this information, a profile will be developed including the desired skills and characteristics in the next superintendent.
 
The position will be advertised and candidates will be recruited from October 1 through January 20.   On January 27, the School Board and consultants from School Exec Connect will meet to review and approve a slate of unnamed candidates to be initially interviewed.  
 

The Sartell-St. Stephen School 748 Board of Education continues moving forward with the superintendent search process. Board members want the community to be informed and involved in the process with opportunity for feedback.

On January 27, the School Board and consultants from School Exec Connect will meet to review and approve a slate of candidates for initial interviews.  The Board will interview six to seven recommended candidates on January 28 and 29. These interview sessions will start at 5:00 p.m. at the District Service Center. On January 29, the Board will narrow the field to two or three finalists.  

The next round of individual interviews will occur on February 3, 5 and 6, if needed.  Each finalist will be invited for an all-day interview process including an open forum at 5:00 p.m. in Sartell High School Media Center.  This forum will be open to staff, students and community members.  Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates and complete a feedback form to be shared with the School Board.  This interview day will end with a final Board interview at 7:45 p.m. at the Sartell High School Media Center.  The Board is asking staff, students and community to provide input into the selection.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend ALL public meetings to be involved in the search process.

I hope that the community will take the time to be part of the process by being at the sessions, asking questions of the candidates and providing feedback to the Board,” shared Michelle Meyer, Board Chair. 
 
The Board plans to act on the new superintendent’s contract in February.
