Welcome, I am excited for the new school year.  I'm sure we will have a great time learning, getting fit, and having fun. 

Your child or children will have physical education (gym) as follow: all day kindergarten classes have gym every day for 25 minutes. Half day classes have gym two days out of the five day cycle for twenty-five minutes. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders have gym four days out of the five day cycle for 25 minutes.

Grade Level Outcomes for Physical Education

Grade K and 1

The student will:

Develop locomotion and perceptual motor skills.

Develop eye-hand, eye-foot, and body coordination.

Explore movement through rhythm and dance.

Move and tumble safely and efficiently through space.

Understand basic cognitive concepts associated with movement.

Develop beginning levels of physical fitness.

Participate actively and cooperatively while following classroom rules, procedures and safety practices.

Grade 2

The student will:

Develop locomotion and perceptual motor skills.

Develop eye-hand, eye-foot, and body coordination.

Explore movement through rhythm and dance.

Move and tumble safely and efficiently through space.

Identify critical elements for fundamental skills.

Develop beginning levels of physical fitness.

Participate actively and cooperatively while following classroom rules, procedures and safety practices.

Third and Fourth Graders are required to do Fitness Testing in the fall and in the spring.

Grade 3

The student will:

Develop locomotion and perceptual motor skills.

Develop eye-hand, eye-foot and body coordination.

Demonstrate fundamental rhythmic movements to music.

Move and tumble safely and efficiently through space. .

Define critical elements that enhance personal performance.

Measure and evaluate personal level of physical fitness and implement a personal fitness plan.

Performance Assessment: Fitness Motor Skills

Participate actively and cooperatively while following classroom rules, procedures and safety practices.

Major Units of Study: Dance, Fitness, Jogging/Track & Field, Swimming, Kickball, Floor Hockey, Tumbling and LEAD-UP Skills & Games for: Soccer, Football, Volleyball and Basketball

Grade 4

The student will:

Demonstrate fundamental rhythm and dance movements. .

Develop motor skills in beginning team/group activities.

Use critical elements that enhance personal performance.

Measure and evaluate personal level of physical fitness.

Participate actively and cooperatively while following classroom rules, procedures and safety practices.

Major Units of Study: Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Tumbling, Softball
