NOTIFY THE SCHOOL NURSE BEFORE RETURNING FROM QUARANTINE
The nurse tracks and adjusts attendance for COVID-19 related absences (related to symptoms of self, family or close contact) and needs to know of negative test results, alternate diagnosis, etc.  This communication alleviates uncertainties and concerns and ensures a smooth return to school for your child(ren) and prevents you from receiving multiple calls from us.  As a safety precaution, children returning to school without prior communication from families must be pulled from the classroom and wait in a safe area away from others until follow-up is conducted.

    PICK UP CARDS
The cards are working great! Thank you for bringing them along when picking up your child – it really helps as our dismissal time is now less than 10 minutes! We believe this is the safest and quickest way to dismiss students from school and that is our primary concern. Please dress warmly and be kind to our staff as we are all in this together.

    CONFERENCES – SWITCHED TO VIRTUAL
As we have observed the COVID-19 numbers increase, we have had to make decisions about the safety and security of all our families.  At this time, we believe the safest choice for parent-teacher conferences is to hold them virtually.  You have previously signed up for a conference time in Skyward, if you have not signed up for a time please do so at your earliest convenience.  As a family you will still keep that same time you have reserved, but instead of coming into our building, you will be connecting with your child’s teacher via the platform Zoom.  Here is the link to the directions for families on how to use Zoom.  We appreciate your flexibility as we navigate this pandemic.

The Minnesota Department of Health recently released an updated guide and screening tool to determining whether your child is well enough to come to school.   Please take a moment to review the screening tool and the attendance guide if your child is feeling unwell or if you have been informed that you have been in close contact to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.   If you are calling in to report a student who is out due to illness, please be as specific as possible when reporting symptoms to assist our school nursing staff in determining what follow-up calls are necessary.   Click here:  HOME SCREENING TOOL . Click here:  COVID-19 ATTENDANCE GUIDE for PARENTS & FAMILIES.  If you have further questions/concerns, please contact Nurse Wendy.  You can email her at  Nurse Wendy or call her at 320-656-3701 extension 4898.

FOOD SERVICE:  No charge for meals through November 6
All K-12 students will be able to each school breakfast and lunch at no cost through November 6. In-Person students should follow the procedures for each building; secondary students may purchase a la carte items if they wish). Distance and Hybrid students may pick up meals on their home learning days either from 11a-12p at SHS Door 23 or 4-5p at SMS Main Entrance. Please note: pick up meals at the location that is convenient, regardless of where your student attends; students need not be in the vehicle when picking up meals; and no need to pre-register meals at this time. For more details, please visit our Food Service News page.

    PICK UP CARDS
The cards are working great! Thank you for bringing them along when picking up your child – it really helps as our dismissal time is now less than 10 minutes! It is our plan to continue to check students out at the front door even as temperatures drop, even when the snow flies. We believe this is the safest and quickest way to dismiss students from school and that is our primary concern. Please dress warmly and be kind to our staff as we are all in this together.

We have completed our first week of school as the new Pine Meadow Primary School! It has been an energetic yet amazing first week of school COVID-19 style! We have made many changes to old routines which have made everything feel new to everyone: families, staff and students. We appreciate all your patience as we tweak those changes to best meet the needs of the whole school community.

PARENT PICK-UP PROCEDURE was a big change for us this year!  Dismissing over 525 on-site students at the end of the day while keeping students in their pods for social distancing and ensuring they each go home each day with an authorized parent/guardian has been our biggest puzzle to solve.

Our official dismissal time is 2:20p. We begin by dismissing students learning in the yellow wing first, blue wing next, and end with students in the green wing. It takes time for everyone to travel safely through the school to parent pick-up, Kidstop and then bus. If your child is in one of the latter dismissed wings, we suggest you perhaps come a few minutes later than those picking up students from the yellow wing and so on to help minimize your wait time.

Students are learning their end of day routines and our total dismissal time has lessened from 45 minutes to 15 minutes within 3 days. We appreciate all your patience as we discover what works best and allows us to be efficient while still maintaining our safety protocols.

    BACK TO SCHOOL SIGN-OFF
Thank you so much for everyone’s prompt attention to completing the Back To School questionnaire granting Field Trip permissions, Computer Use, etc.  We are down to only needing 12 more families to complete – if you have not done so yet, please complete as soon as possible.

    PICTURE DAY: RESCHEDULED
Picture Day has been rescheduled for October 12 for Grade 2 and October 13 for Grade 1.  The hard copy District Calendar states that it is on Thursday, September 24 – please cross that off the calendar and add the new dates.  Distance Learning students will be photographed between 2:45-3:30 p.m. on each of those days.

    CONFERENCES: OCTOBER 12, 13, & 14
We will notify you when the schedule is set-up and you will be able to reserve a time in Skyward Family Access.  In the meantime, if you still need assistance accessing Skyward or that area in Skyward, please contact Sue Fibranz at the Food Services department.

Thank you to everyone for all your support and understanding as we all navigate these new waters!  😊

  • It was so great to see all of you that were able to attend an Open House session with your child’s teacher. We are excited to begin a new school year!

For those students participating in Distance Learning only and were unable to attend an Open House session, we have materials and a student iPad in the main office for you to pick up.  The office will be open on Thursday, September 3rd from 7:30 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. but closed on Friday and Monday. We will be open again on Tuesday, September 8th for the first day of school.

We have a unique school entrance route.  Please be mindful of the following:

    • Traffic is not allowed to turn left into the PME West parking lot.
    • Traffic will drive to the east end of 5th Street, make a U-Turn and line up for drop off facing west.
    • If traffic is not backed up beyond the bus entrance and busses are not exiting the bus lot, a U- turn can be made here to head back west.
    • Traffic should not block the bus entrance.

    Drop-off Procedures:

    • Students are encouraged to be dropped off along 5th Street between the bus entrance and the West parking lot entrance. Students should only exit from cars on the passenger side of the vehicle. Once students are dropped off in this area, vehicles will not need to enter the west parking area.
    • Parents wanting their child to be dropped off closer can still enter the drop-off area but as soon as the car is past the flag pole students can be safely dropped off.
    • Please move forward as far as possible when dropping off your children.
    • Students should be prepared to get out of the vehicle so this can be done in a very quick, efficient and safe manner.
    • The one lane drive between the tennis court and PMPS may only be used by busses. Busses will be traveling both ways on this road, so please do not use this road.
    • Students can enter the building at 7:30 a.m. and should be in their classrooms, ready to learn by 7:50 a.m. To accomplish that, please be sure your child is dropped off not later than 7:45 a.m.

    Pick-up Procedures:

    • You must park your car in a designated parking space and come up to the entrance of the building.
    • Staff will meet you and radio in that you are here, and your child will be sent out to meet you.

Thank you again for a great Open House and we look forward to the start of an exciting new year!  Feel free to contact us if you have further questions.

    Sincerely,
    Sara Nelson
    Principal

    Pine Meadow Primary School Families,

At their August 17 meeting, the school board approved an In-Person Learning Model for our school. The final decision regarding the Fall Learning Model will be made and communicated to families via email on Thursday, August 27.

To view the PMPS 2020-21 Learning Model Plans, please click here.

The Learning Model our school will use will depend upon Stearns County COVID-19 infection rates, per guidance from the Governor. COVID-19 infection rates will continue to be monitored and families can expect a communication every other Thursday beginning September 17 as to the anticipated Learning Model for the following two weeks. If a more urgent need arises, the school district will promptly shift to a more restrictive model. Families also have the option of participating in a distance learning only format.

Please review our ISD 748 Safe Learning Plan for an overview of all Learning Models and additional department-specific information.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Sara Nelson, Principal
    Pine Meadow Primary School
