  • Picture Retake DayPicture retake day is Thursday, October 24th.
    If your child was photographed and would like retakes, please have your child return the picture packet to the photographer. If your child has not been photographed and would like to order a packet, picture forms are available in the office. Online orders can be placed at  All students need to be photographed to ensure their picture will be included in the yearbook.  If your child did not have their picture taken this is your last opportunity.  No purchase is necessary. Student’s pictures were distributed to them on Wednesday, October 9th 

    Grades 5-6 Family Math Night
    Join us on Tuesday, October 22, from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm in the SMS Commons for Family Math Night!  Family Math Night is an evening of hands-on math experiences and free pizza! All activities will be connected to concepts the students are learning in math class. If you have questions, please talk to your child’s math teacher or email Ms. Johnson, Family Math Night coordinator. Please register using this link

    6 – 8 MathCounts
    MathCounts is a national program designed for higher level sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to promote interest and achievement in Mathematics. The Sartell Middle School program will consist of practice sessions once per week starting in November.  Practice will be held on MONDAY mornings from 7:30 – 8:15 (location to be determined) Competition will be held at SCSU sometime in February 2020.  This is an individual and team competition so please make it a point to attend all practices.     5-8 Art Club
    Art Club is a program offered to students in grades 5-8. Art Club provides students with the opportunity to For additional information check out the Art Club Registration Form Registration forms are due October 23rd

    SHS Band
    The High School Marching Band will be traveling to Denver/Colorado Springs in the summer of 2020. Any current 8th-12th grade students, who intend to join the marching band/color guard and would like to travel with the group, should attend an informational meeting on Monday, October 21st, in the SHS Band Room at 5:30 p.m. 

    7th/8th Winter Sports
    Winter Sports seasons for 7th and 8th grade students are right around the corner.  There will be a Winter Sports meeting for 7th and 8th grade students and parents on Monday, October 21st at 6 p.m. (35 minutes) in the Middle School North Gym.  This will be information on the following sports & their start date:

    • 7/8 Girls Basketball (starts 10/21 at 3:40 p.m. in SMS North (8th) and South (7th) Gyms)
    • 7/8 Wrestling (11/18)
    • 7/8 Boys Swim (11/25)
    • 7/8 Boys Basketball (starts 12/17)
    • 7/8 Nordic Ski (starts 11/11)
    • ***Note Nordic Ski will attend a high school meeting instead on 10/28 at the SHS Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

    Food Drive
    Once again it is that time of year for our food drive to support Quiet Oaks Hospice. We will begin the food drive on October 14th and it will end on October 25th. Bags of candy will be distributed to any SA that fills out a bingo card and the top 3 SA’s with the most cards filled out will receive a pizza party. Thank you for all your support! 

    District Events
    $50 and $100 bills will not be accepted at event ticket gates or concessions. Please plan ahead and have appropriate funds with you.  

    6th Grade Play
    The Sartell Middle School Sixth Graders are presenting “Fairy Tale Courtroom”. It is a comedy that shows the other side of several familiar fairy tales, when two of their biggest villains, the Big Bad Wolf and the Wicked Witch, are brought to trial. Both the Wolf and the Witch have been frolicking from fairy tale to fairy tale, wreaking havoc as they try to prevent the general public from living happily ever after.Over 70 cast and crew members have been working hard to put on a great event for the community.  Come enjoy the show on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. or Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. All performances are at the Sartell High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults.  

    Grade 5-8 American Math Association Competition Test (AMC 8)
    The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice exam in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. This exam will be administered on Tuesday, November 12th, at 2:00 p.m. in room 675. SMS has 20 spots for students who excel in Math that will be filled on a first come first served basis.  There is NO COST to students.  Students interested in taking this competition math test should pick up a permission form from Mrs. Dornburg or their math teacher. AMC 8 Registration

    District 748 Strategic Plan
    The District 748 Strategic Plan to support and improve teaching and learning with the goal of creating the world’s best workforce will be presented at the District Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Advisory Committee meeting on October 22nd from 7:30 – 8:30a.m. in the District Services Center Board Room.  All are welcome. 

    6th Activity Night from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
    Sartell Middle School along with the Boys and Girls Club will be hosting an activity night on Friday, November 1, 2019.  This event will be held at Sartell Middle School from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Activities will include open gym, DJ dance, games, swimming and other miscellaneous events and activities.  A variety of concessions will be available in the commons area throughout the evening. Admission is $5.00 or $4.00 with donation of a non-perishable food item.  The activity night will be chaperoned by Sartell Middle School staff, as well as members from the Boys and Girls Club. 

    13th Annual Veteran’s Day Recognition
    Students are invited to bring a photo of relatives who have served or are currently serving in the military. Please bring only copies of the photos. No originals will be accepted!   They will be posted on the SMS Wall of Honor during month of November.  Please label each photo with:

    • student’s name
    • advisor or homeroom teacher
    • name of the person in the photo along with branch of service and rank
      Photo copies can be dropped off in the main office or with Mrs. Dornburg in room 675. 

    Veteran’s Day Lunch – November 11th
    Sartell Area Veterans are invited to attend lunch with Sartell Middle School students on Monday, November 11th, between
    11:00 – 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria/commons.  Please RSVP to Lori Dornburg by Wednesday, November 6th, by email Mrs. Dornburg's email or phone at 656-3701 extension 2675. 

    National Scholar Society 18th Annual Student Poetry Contest Grades 3-8
    If you love writing poetry, this contest is for you! Write an original poem on one of four prompts.  Additional information and registration forms are available from Mrs. Dornburg in room 675.  Entry deadline is December 2nd!Poetry Contest Registration

    5/6 Cribbage Club
    Cribbage Club starts on Wednesday, October 16th.  It meets from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. in room 675.If you are interested in joining cribbage club, please complete the registration form. Cribbage Club registration form

    2020 Patriots Pen Essay Contest
    The Patriots Pen essay contest sponsored by Sauk Rapids VFW Auxiliary is open to students in grades 6-8.  This year’s theme is “What Makes America Great.”  The grand prize is $5000.  Essay information and entry forms are available from Mrs. Dornburg in room 675.  The deadline to turn in the completed essay is Tuesday, October 29th.
