Riverview designated a School Forest by DNR

Sartell-St. Stephen students in grades 3-5 will not only move into a different building in the Fall of 2020, but their learning space will also include almost 60 outdoor acres as a result of Riverview Intermediate School receiving a School Forest designation from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The DNR describes a School Forest as, “ outdoor classroom where teachers and students explore the natural world as a means to teach core subjects such as math, science, reading, writing, geography, physical education, the arts, and others.”  The 58.93 acres that will serve as Riverview’s outdoor classroom are surrounded by Sartell-St. Stephen’s original 1969 high school building (that will become Riverview Intermediate School for grades 3-5 beginning with the 2020-2021 school year), the 1993 building (that will become a grades 6-8 middle school), and Pine Meadow Elementary.
